Artists All Around

When she was 7 years old, artist and weaver Louise Halsey  met artist and illustrator Maurice Sendak, author of Where The Wild Things Are, among many others, through her artist parents, Corrie McCallum and William Halsey, who were both friends of Sendak. Sendak was then 28. They soon started a letter-writing exchange that lasted until Sendak's passing in 2012. Their friendship spanned decades, births, marriages, and ultimately, death. Now, Louise's daughter, writer Alice Driver is writing a book on the friendship and artistic mentorship that changed both of their lives.
